I helped ‘White Widow’ get SA passport, man now claims A South African has confessed to have processed fraudulent passport to al Shabaab linked terror suspect, Samantha Lewthwaite. The 60-year-old man who illegally procured more than 3,000 identity cards and passports for al-Qaeda-linked networks such as “soldiers of Islam” was paid an estimated Sh139,200. It is now emerging that Ehmed Chisty, who is now serving a 37-year jail term for the series of fraud also issued illegal passports to Lewthwaite’s two children. Despite mounting hunt for her even before the mall massacre, it is believed that Lewthwaite has been traveling in and out of South Africa as recently as three weeks ago. She was flagged “as a person of interest” when she landed in South Africa on a Virgin Atlantic flight in 2010 using a false identity in the name of Natalie Webb. Surprisingly, she was allowed to continue living in the country completely unmonitored. A foreign media on Monday disclosed how the Muslim convert, who has been on the run for the last 20 months, was seen camping at foreign embassies earlier this year. The mother of four was caught on CCTV cameras in Arcadia, Pretoria, looking at embassies including the British High Commission. British spies ordered her capture but South African police failed to act on intelligence passed to them from MI6 and the FBI. Israeli security agency, Mossad, reported the sighting to South Africa’s police’s crime intelligence unit and sent an urgent notice to other Western intelligence service. But it appears the South Africans failed to conduct any surveillance. #AreWeOne?
