I honestly thought that yesterday was really going to be terrible. - TopicsExpress

I honestly thought that yesterday was really going to be terrible. However, it turned out to be a fantastic day. We had a our fall graduate open house for the MFA and MA in Pub at 9AM. Met two really wonderful candidates who I hope join us this year. At 10AM we had our MFA faculty meeting--always a great time with my wonderful colleagues and I thought this meeting was particularly productive. They came up with some excellent ideas for faculty professional development that I am very excited about. Then came the #RosemontWriteAThon from noon to midnight. I had pledged to write 10K words in 12 hours. I knew it was physically possible, but would I have it in with all the other mental distractions? Well, I did not get to 10K words, although Im confident that I could have. I stopped just shy of 8K words because I finished the novel that Ive been working on off and on now for almost 10 years. This was not something that I expected to do yesterday at all. Its been a while, and I had forgotten what that really feels like to finish a big work like this. Joy would be one word to describe how I felt last night at about 11PM. A character introduced late to the story really surprised me, as did the ending. The atmosphere at the Write-A-Thon was so productive, everyone wants to do it again in the spring--and I think we will! High word count of the day goes to alumni Roman Colombo with over 12K words--thats more than a thousand words an hour! If you said you would sponsor me, Im going to hold you to it. You can make your donation online here: https://rosemont.edu/capitalcampaign/make-a-donation/giveonline.aspx Be sure in the support line to click the drop down box that says other and write in MFA/Pub fund in the box that says: Please Specify.
