I hope everyone had a touch of love today. I’ve been thinking - TopicsExpress

I hope everyone had a touch of love today. I’ve been thinking about a film I recently watched called “The University Sing Sing” featuring current and past prisoners who graduated from the University program at the correctional facility. The college program called “Hudson Link” awards inmates with credited degrees and is taught by the same Professors who teach the exact same course in public universities. The inspiring statistics and stories told of redemption allow the audience to take a glimpse at real change. Controversial, I know. The men featured in the film, hold the dark generational trauma and strangled in the cords created by the Oppressor. Throwing live bodies away to rot inside a cell for fifteen years, and then opening the door to the same reality they came from without any new tools, is a hopeless answer to rehabilitation. The human beings who see redemption for their crimes can become the most inspiring beings who give people from all social and subject positions a sign of hope. The film shows how, freeing the mind, can change a life. If everyone were given these tools of critical thinking, taking your spirit to a higher level of understanding and elevating your quality of life through education, our society also benefits. I’ve been blessed to see darkness come to light, people shattering their concrete paths through the exploration of higher education. Its a new beginning. The “University of Sing Sing” is a thought provoking film leaving an imprint of how really strong the human spirit can be. I became inspired.
