I hope everyone is having a great week thus far! While traveling recently I wanted to enjoy my vacation but didn’t want to gain pounds, for obvious reasons, but also because I’m in a fat loss challenge. Since I have a lot of clients who travel I want to put together tips to help you the next time your on the move. Follow these tips and I know you will enjoy your trip and not gain 10lbs in the process. 1. Fast during transport. Avoid unnecessary airport snacking. Don’t eat until you reach your destination whenever possible. This will keep your calories low so when you do reach your destination you can eat something you will enjoy. During this time drink additional water. It will keep you feeling full. Recently when we landed in San Diego we immediately went out and found a restaurant. I don’t know who was more ready to eat my growing 130lb 12 year old or this daddy. 2. Wake up, work out. This will set your day off right and you’ll have tons of energy throughout the day to go and do fun stuff. Plus your body will burn calories all day. I recommend a total body strength workout. Also limit the rest time, get in set a clock for 30-45 minutes and switch between an upper body and a lower body exercises. You won’t have to rest as long if you switch upper and lower and you’ll burn calories for hours after the session has ended. 3. Walk Whenever possible walk to your destination, this will not only help you burn calories but also allow you to sight see while you’re in motion. 4. Opt for zero calorie beverages. You dont need hundreds and hundreds of calories from beverages on top of the extra calories youll be consuming from food. The good news is there are usually multiple no calorie drink options at most restaurants. Ask for lemon or lime for your glass of ice water or order unsweetened hot or cold tea, coffee, sparkling water, club soda, or diet soda. 5. Enjoy a lunch of high protein and no carbs. Have high pro tein to keep you fuller longer. When you’re ordering this meal remember your going to get to cheat at dinner so just hold off on all the carbs. The carbs will make you hungrier faster and also make you crash. Who wants to spend their vacation in the room napping? Not me! 6. Let loose during dinner. Once dinner arrives go ahead have you something you enjoy and don’t frequently order. After all, it is vacation. Having this meal wont kill you because you won’t eat again until mid day the next day so all the calories you had for dinner will be your fuel during your fast the next day. 7. Stop when the tank is full. It sounds simple, but many of us have gotten out of the habit of paying attention to whether were truly, physically hungry. Eating opportunities and celebrations are all around us when we are vacationing, and were in the Im on VACATION! mindset. Thats when we will be the most vulnerable to eating even if we arent hungry and not stopping when we are comfortable. So the next time you’re on vacation try these tips and let me know how it goes.
