I just copped $220 parking infringement. We have a Red Parking - TopicsExpress

I just copped $220 parking infringement. We have a Red Parking permit for my elderly Mother, (87), who uses both a wheelchair or walking stick depending on the distance walking. Each Monday she has a blood test and hairdresser appointment. We park in a handicap zone outside the Golden Beach shopping centre. We thought this legal. We were wrong. Red parking permit is for off street parking or shopping centre parking. How do you define off street parking? The car park outside the shops is offset from the street, not good enough. The back parking lot for this shopping centre has a flight of stairs up to shops. Too steep for elderly people to manage. Going to appeal, because this is wrong, wrong, wrong! Not only was I told by council that it is up to the Transport Department to notify permit holders of change of colours in permits, that it is the council that enforces the regulations and they now intend to do that. To park on street in handicap parking bays you now need a purple permit, phasing out the blue. First I have heard of a purple permit! Revenue raising at its best! To add lemon juice to the cut, I parked at 1130 went into hairdressers to get Mother, got booked at 1138. Never had an infringement before, really cut up about this.
