I just discovered BMI Live, a service that lets us report what songs we played, and where, and BMI will pay us for performing our music (for the past 6 months). This is great news... except that I worry a bit. When I report that we played XX here and XX there I imagine BMI goes after those places for payments. I know a few of the venues we play likely DONT pay their BMI/ASCAP/SESAC yearly dues, and I dont want to cause trouble for them. But, we need the revenue, and it IS FAIR to collect it. After all, we registered the songs, and this is one way that full-time musicians can make a bit of money on the music we write and produce. Thoughts from other band people? Venue owners? Very curious if I should proceed to upload my past 6 months of shows...
