I just discovered this and I notice these traits in my kids too. How to recognise some traits in your toddler and develop them (very interesting to know) Transporting - A child in this category likes to carry all their toys or any item (e.g your remote - thats why you are always looking for it) from one place to another in a bag. Push around a toy car or a toy pram. Move from point A to point B. For these kids get them toys like a moving truck or large van so they can transport things from place to place. You may end up with toys everywhere but its better to keep them busy. Also a fancy carrier bag or trolley bag will be useful, that way they can pick up their toys and move it around. ** Advantage - you can send them on errands by asking them to bring things and keep things to and from the rooms. Enveloping - A child with these traits enjoy hiding inside the bed sheets, covering themselves up inside a make believe tent or wrap up their dolls or toys with blankets or newspaper. For these kids, if you can afford a play house that will be great, or you can settle for the age old wrapper on top of dining table covering all the sides or maybe even a large box Enclosure/containing - A child in this group likes to fill up and empty containers of all kinds, (ragolis bottles watch out), they like to climb into large cartons, sit at the back of the chair, build tents with wrappers or clothes. This is almost similar with enveloping. ** Advantage - You can engage them in wrapping gifts, it may not be neatly done, but it is a start. Get them to help fetch water too with small buckets. Diagonal/vertical/horizontal - A child in this group like to drop things from top to bottom, pressing computer buttons, play with the running water in the bathroom, digging, sliding down the stairs, climb up and jump off furniture, line up the cars, bounce and kick balls, throw. Just get this kid a ball and give him play time outside the house once a while especially on weekends Rotation - A child may be fascinated by the spinning washing machine, love anything with wheels, rolling tyres, they enjoy spinning round and getting dizzy or like being swung back and forth like a swing. For these kids, You can get them skipping rope, spinning hoops, playing with empty milk tins or the old style of bottle cover and biro cover (dont laugh ooo, I had a fun childhood) **Advantage -they are more likely to to help out in the kitchen with stirring, mixing in bowls etc. Connection - A child in this group likes to connect and string objects together, spend time joining the train tracks together, playing with cellotape to glue things together. These are very good artistic and creative traits. Develop this. Positioning - A child in this category like to stack and sort things. They enjoy putting things on their head, they like to put toys on top of the other and carry around making sure it does not fall off, they like their rice and plantain in separate plates (instead of together). Get them toys that encourage them to sort and stack things. Kids like these will enjoying picking beans for you. Keep watching them, find out their traits, likes and talents then spend your money on activities to improve and develop those talent. For instance, if one of your kids loves to sings. Dont waste money and send them to football Club. Enrol them in singing clubs. Make them join the church & school choir. Find out about local singing competitions and enrol them. keep watching them. God bless our kids. Source: Psychology today.
