I just finished reading The Sun Also Rises for about the third time, and Im interested in some perspective from my diverse group of literate (and literary) friends. Hemingway has been accused of being racist, anti-Semitic, and misogynistic. His defenders say he was echoing the times and using what would appear to be insensitive portrayals to symbolize some greater truths. Should we take them at their word? Why, or why not. Discuss.
