I just finished reading everyone’s posts from yesterday and they seriously made me cry! This was quite a journey and I am so fortunate for how many people supported me through it. Thank you! The race was AMAZING…my body, not so much! The advice everyone gave me going into it was to not have a time goal and to just aim to finish. I did set a goal for myself though…to run the whole thing down to the last .2 and I DID! I really wanted to stop and rest many times from mile 18 on when my back was throbbing and my achilles felt like it was going to snap, but I pushed through and am so happy I did. Seeing my family along the way 4 times was the greatest motivation…they were so awesome to stand in cold, windy weather and cheer me on. I was able to high five and kiss my kids while passing twice. I thought I missed my dad, stepmom, sister and nephew and was so surprised and excited to see them right at mile 26! Hence the giant smile! The weather was rough; there were times the wind gusts were so strong all I could do was laugh. The Verrazano winds gusts were knocking us into each other. Brooklyn was the BEST!! The crowds were unreal and I smiled for 10 miles straight. Having my name on my shirt was awesome. I feel like thousands of people must have cheered me on, Go Jenna, Looking Strong Jenna, You Got This Jenna. I felt famous, lol! Once we got into Manhattan is when I was hurting and I think I was missing the Brooklyn energy. That borough rocked! The hills and wind at the end stole my smile for a little while but I finished strong and proud! All of the calls, texts and posts I received came through on my phone right after I crossed and that was amazing! It was a painful mile long walk to reunite with family but I couldn’t have been happier to see their smiles when we finally reached each other. We had a meal and then headed back to catch a train home. I actually RAN to catch the 7:13 train because I couldn’t imagine waiting 45 minutes. I impressed myself with that run! My inlaws met us for drinks and dessert at the Hilton where we had our wedding reception right near the train station. It was an awesome continuation of celebration!! When we finally pulled in our driveway and I was ready to end an amazing day I was greeted with a garage full of streamers, a finish line, posters, a handmade medal, and balloons inside from my awesome neighbors who are some of the greatest people I have been blessed to have in my life! So there it is….an amazing day I will never, ever forget! Thank you everyone for the memories!!
