I just got back from watching, Selma, I havent been to a movie in about 5 years, but felt the need to see this movie and felt the need to take Marcos. This was the first time I can remember, that I went to a movie and there wasnt a sound from the audience during the entire movie. I found this to be a very powerful movie, and incredibly timely. I feel renewed, recharged. You hear the people today saying the exact same things they said back then, but through the brutality, the inequality and the injustice Martin Luther King Jr. and his followers stood tall and stood strong. Today weve been called to the same duty, and we stand in the eyes of ridicule of the people that are untouched by the brutality, the systematic racism, the inequality and the injustice, but I urge everyone who is out in the streets, stand tall, stand strong. Many of the rights we have today were won on the backs, broken bones, blood and lives of those people back then. They were also told by the privileged, to stay out of the streets, to quit causing a commotion, to get a job, go to work. They were also told that what they were doing was silly, unproductive, but they didnt waver. We have been called to duty and we must not waver either. We fight for our rights, we fight for the rights of the people who dismiss us, we fight for the rights of future generations to come. My friend Barry John Johnson is writing a book on spiritual elements, today he is working on the chapter about Peace, when I returned home, I had an email in my inbox from him with this quote in it, from his chapter on Peace. I truly believe that things happen for a reason and not by coincidence, that this message was meant to come to me after this movie, I march forward with this thought in my mind: Peace is sometimes about disrupting false peace and exposing truth - kind of like when that famous Rabbi named Jesus threw tables on end in the temple, a peaceful dude disrupting the status quo Its our time to expose false peace!
