I just got home from the club about ten minutes ago, 3:40 AM, and heard the sounds of the often irksome piano on the corner with aimless keyboard maneuverings so I stopped and visited the piano before parking my car for the night. I wanted to ask the "performers" if they had read the sign placed in good faith by John Gerdy requesting no piano playing after 10 PM. The young couple at the keyboard were very pleasant and left amiably. The sign which had been on the piano where anyone sitting to play would have seen it was gone removed probably by a visitor vexed at being expected to respect the usual quieter, ambient city noises of the night. As I expected, nothing but complete removal will ensure the relative tranquility of the neighborhood. John Gerdy has promised me, in good faith, the the piano would not return to this location next open-air piano season. In the meantime, the beat goes on.
