I just had my cavity walls insulated for free! :-) Im really pleased with the results. One degree lower thermostat, 4 hours of retained heat after heating off, and so quiet. The company I used is based at south coast, but I found a link to web site which checks whether there is a free scheme in you area by post code. Link is here: homeinsulationgrants.info/home/apply_now Its worth checking, although I cant vouch for the company, but if you know your eligible, you can shop around. I just used the company that knocked on my door and convinced me it wasnt a scam. It was pretty painless, a couple of survey visits taking less than an hour, a couple of signatures and then a two hour install a month later. Loft insulation is also available if you have none. The link above is for people NOT claiming benefits, but if you get any kind of tax credit or benefit, you can probably get it done, even if your not covered by a free scheme by post code. Just Google free insulation and a hundred companies will explain the schemes. If youve got kids under 16, you can probably get a new more efficient boiler for free. These schemes are funded by spreading the cost across all energy bills, so you have to pay for everyone elses insulation, even if you dont have yours done, so do look into it. And many schemes have an expiry date, so hurry. Particularly posting this for Richard Langley, as I dont know if yours is done but its a bloody good deal!
