I just had to have a serious talk with my child about assumption because she is very upset for behaviors associated with people who do this. Assumption is an evil little demon and I learned a very hard lesson in college about this when someone decided to publicly humiliate me by demonstrating that I was a victim of nothing more than my own insecurities.........and then I lost a very valuable friendship. I decided then that I would try very hard to never let my kids get away with talking about people in front of me and that I would stand far away from people who find pleasure in gossiping and talking about their friends and neighbors. We should see, hear, smell, taste, and touch facts before we think or act upon assumption. When you are happy with your life, with who you are, and where you are in life, then there is no need to assume anything. I refuse to give explanations for what I share, say, or even think is funny when I post on facebook for fear of someone assuming it is about them when they should not be on my facebook page to begin with. I keep my facebook page open to the public because I have nothing to hide and I am allowing those who find pleasure in making a fool of themselves through assumption to knock themselves out. If there are people who get off on assuming just so they can call someone names, cuss them out, and harass them on twitter then so be it because the joke is not on me.
