I just laughed so hard skimming this well-meaning up hilariously awful article, How to Sanitize and Store Your Baby Stuff For Round Two because...well, why? Sure, wipe your stuff down and store it. But sanitize? Come on. Germophobia is really burning my toast these days. Can you tell? Just stop. Stop. Bacteria is normal. Our bodies are made up of around ten trillion cells, but we each harbor a hundred trillion bacteria. And for heavens sake, donate that jumperoo. Dont sanitize it and store it. Nope. Give it away and never look back. My 7-month-old is the most spoiled, happy baby because hes never been stuck in one of those. I cant believe I ever had a jumper, bouncer, bumbo, or whatever else was handed down to me that I couldnt say no to. Less really is more when it comes to babies and children. They learn so much more when you break it down to the basics. Yesterday, Quint was crawling around the bathroom while I was showering and he noticed a trail of (harmless) ants. It was amazing. He started squawking and cooing and slapping his hands in excitement. He watched them crawl, tried to touch them, drooled on them...It was priceless. Those ants bought me about 15 minutes of alone time. My baby was elated. Let those babies explore and find what they are interested in, not some mass produced container made of questionable materials, destined to end up in a landfill. And a walker toy? Ha! My babys learning on a laundry basket. This was last night. It melts my heart.
