I just learned a few moments ago that Mr. William Neuel Littleton passed away over a week ago. I first met this kind gentleman a few years ago at a Sure Fire Music Company Inc gathering, hosted by The Wilburn family. Miss. Jeannie C Riley insisted that we tag along with her and Im so thankful we did just that. That was the day Lynn Woodruff Gray said shed known Jeannie since Jesus wore short pants, a quote Ill never forget and one that still makes me chuckle when I remember it. It was at that same gathering that I met Mr. Roy August a gentleman Im honored to know and call friend. I was honored to meet Mr. Bill that night as well, Several months later at another Wilburn event I heard Mr. Bill sing a song he wrote in regards to The Carter Family that moved me like few songs have. I remember when I last saw Mr. Littleton at The Texas Troubadour Theatre for a Earnest Tubb Midnight Jamboree and he informed me he was fixing to move down south a little farther. I shook his hand and said, May God bless and keep you til we meet again, he responded, Son if I dont see you again here Ill see you over there, as he looked up to the star filled sky. Mr. Bill was a country music journalist and a lover of music in general and while you never knew the quiet man was in the room til you spoke to him, you never forgot him after his story telling adventures. Mr. Bill isnt one Ill have to say goodbye to but rather, see you later, Im sure if he could tell us anything at this moment, hed say, in the words of my pal Rick Patterson.......
