I just read that Texas 4th graders (our Trinity is a 4th grader) - TopicsExpress

I just read that Texas 4th graders (our Trinity is a 4th grader) will spend approximately 1,000 minutes (16+ hours) taking the STAAR test this academic year. This number does not include any benchmark or practice tests leading up to the real deal. As the parent of a 4th grader, this number surprised me. Im not looking for a political showdown here on Facebook, but I would like to know your thoughts. Is this number excessive? Necessary? Are there other ways our students can demonstrate mastery of a given set of skills without utilizing standardized testing? By the way, I am a huge (HUGE) fan of professional educators and believe that theyre doing the very best they can in what has become a very high-stakes teaching/testing environment.
