I just realized 3 of my chickens are 3 years old so its time to get some baby chicks. They are the best. Once I found my granddaughter trying to put her sock on a chick. Then she had fun sliding them down the toy race track. And they always have to go for a spin on the carousel. I love to pull a chick out of my pocket to show kids. Then when I pull out three more, its a real party. 54 years I lived with no chickens in my life. When I finally got them, I realized I had missed out on some special times. But never again. I am Joy Peck Peck Peck the Chicken Lady. On another note, Ive been three years now completely free of lymphoma symptoms. I think I see a parallel there. Ive been told that whatever Im doing to keep doing it. I like that instruction because I love what Im doing. Im a lucky girl. I especially love being almost 58 and still not dead. When my sister Ardie was two years into her terminal breast cancer that had gone to her liver, someone asked her what made them think she was terminal. She joked to us, its just no good unless you die. She passed away a few months later in 1993. 1994 was when I received my terminal diagnosis of non-Hodgkins low grade lymphoma with a 7-10 year life expectancy which was a surprise but which I completely believed. I was told it would never go into remission. A few months ago I was told that my recent three years with no symptoms is another word for REMISSION! Ill take it! My chickens and I will take it and have a party in our favorite place - the compost pile. Im so grateful to be alive. (Be advised that chickens are proven to be addictive and are actually a gateway animal. Before you know it, youll be wanting worms and bunnies and then suddenly, your family will come home to find a cow in the backyard. Use with care)
