I just received a neat message from a student of mine. He was wondering if he was doing something wrong because his CSS stylesheets are so minimal compared to many of the websites out there with incredibly bloated CSS files. In my honest opinion, I LOVE minimal stylesheets. Today, with our jet speed computers and devices, and incredibly fast Internet connections, web designers dont seem to care as much about page load, image optimization, etc. Even Im guilty of creating unnecessarily bloated websites every now and then. Sometimes the most powerful message is simple. I think the same goes for CSS — if you can achieve your desired result with as little code as possible, youre doing a good job. Efficiency is art. - - - Do you approach your code as an artist? Are your CSS stylesheets bloated and unnecessarily large? Id love to know your thoughts and any techniques you might use.
