I just received a story on Youtube that I wanted to share.. This person left this in a comment on one of my videos and sadley there isnt an option to reply.. PLEASE READ I dont think people get how true your statement, She could crash and it happens fast. Kids can seem fine or stable and before your eyes they go from doing okay to having low oxygen levels, increase or decrease in heart rate. I have 2 friends who have had little ones with heart issues. One Mom (not saying names for privacy), her little boy had heart defects. One day she noticed very slight changes in his behavior and took him to the local Childrens ER. The doctors wanted them to go home, saying he was fine. The Mom refused to leave the hospital because she KNEW that she was sick. Within 20 minutes of the hospital trying to discharge him, saying it was probably a cold, she watchted her little boy crash. He stopped breathing, his heart stopped and needed CPR. Unfortunately even after emergency treatment and being rushed to surgery, it was too late. He was just too sick and didnt make it. To non medical people- when Bonnie says Hannahs low oxygen levels are low, please understand that having a very low oxygen levels, especially when it is a prolonged time with not enough oxygen, it can cause brain damage/death, injury to organs because they dont have enough oxygen they need. It puts extra stress on the heart and organs. If you arent getting enough oxygen things start getting really fuzzy. Ive been at 88% (Should be at least 92. 100 is perfect) when I had pneumonia. I kept asking for my Mom and even though she was right there with me, my brain couldnt comprehend that Mom was there. There was a huge disconnect. As carbon dioxide builds up in your blood you get sleepy. If you fall asleep and your oxygen levels are low, then you add the high carbon dioxide levels, your brain doesnt get that signal saying you need to wake up and breathe! So Hannahs Pulse Oximeter is vital at alerting Bonnie or the RN that Hannah needs help. Sick kids are so hard to raise, totally worth it but it does have its difficulties. As a parent you go back and forth- do I or dont I take her to the ER? Am I making a big deal out of nothing? What if it is life threatening and I dont make the right decision? Knowing you are gling to deal with medics, drs and rns with no formal training with children, trachs or medical conditions your child has. Having to fight with drs and rns when YOU KNOW something isnt right. Having to call 6 people to advocate for the vital care your little one needs but you cant get. And Ive found no matter what you do, you tend to get chewed out by some medical personnel. Mad that you DID or DIDNTt do something the way they would have done it. Every speciqlty has their own opinion. And they never want to talk directly with her other doctors! I get a lot of what I nicknamed hot potato. Yes, all the drs agree you have a condition but Dr. A says you have to go to Dr. B for treatment. Dr. B says no and to go to Dr.C. Dr.C says Dr. A should be giving the care. Its a never ending hampster wheel of trying to successfully advocating for vital medical care needed. It drives me crazy. I refuse to be the messenger anymore and have recently refusing to call Dr. A and tell them what treatment Dr. B suggests and wants Dr. A to order. I give them the direct numbers to the Nurses who work with the doctors and tell them to work it out then let me know what is happening. Its only worked a couple times. Hoping I can be more successful at it, as time passes. I feel like pulling my hair out when Im dealing with all of it. (Hopefully your on facebook so you dont think im just ignoring you :P )
