I just received the application for the Dia de los Muertos event at La Villita Historic Arts Village and shocked to find the art vending fee has quadrupled. This great day of observation that is so embedded into our citys culture, draws the community together to share and participate at events like this. In previous years, the event had an affordable fee that enabled those in our creative community to share and sell their works, simultaneously generating income which enabled them to continue in their passions. This participation is KEY to the growth of SAs artists and small businesses and, after all, isnt this one of the main, underlying tenets in the original La Villita Ordinance of 1939? There is a direct correlation with the Department of Culture & Creative Development, City of San Antonio short sighted approach to revitalizing downtown and San Antonio while fleecing its own citizens to fund it.
