You have been named one of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Top 100 Fundraisers in 2013. A special commemorative plaque is being sent to you, so please look for it to arrive in the mail within the next few days. 2013 was an outstanding year for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and we couldn’t have done it without you! A few noteworthy highlights of 2013 include: · More research grants were funded than any year prior as, thanks to your support, ALSF funded 104 projects across North America. Even better, we heard more positive news about past research we funded including that a Phase 1 clinical trial at Duke Medical Center found that a modified version of the poliovirus is proving effective in treating children with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The first patient enrolled in the trial had her tumor shrink from the size of a lime to that of a pea with no new growth now 14 months after treatment. ALSF funded basic research that led to the trial. · We developed a new grant category called the Reach Grant, a new translational grant with the intent to help move projects into clinical trials, faster. · The ALSF Travel Fund expanded into 8 more institutions for a total of 38 across the U.S. In 2013 alone, the ALSF Travel Fund provided more than 100 flights, 440 nights of lodging and 3,000 gas cards to help families travel for their child’s treatment.
