I just saw and realized that we are coming up on the 20th Anniversary of The Flood of 94 as we refer to it. That brings back a lot of memories, some painful but many heart-warming. That was a long night that seemed to last a week. The Flash flood that killed 15 in Sumter County, streets running with water like wild rivers, watching a home burn while firefighters couldnt get there due to fast moving water, cars and refrigerators swept by in the water, transformers blowing, Police officers in chest-high water getting people out of homes, and even helping a very overloaded dispatcher answer 911 calls. A lot of heart-ache but something that brought our community (and many others) together in a way I had never witnessed before. Very surreal now. Three or four days later, Lake Blackshear flooded 14 feet above full-pool, along with many of our homes and cabins. At the time, it hurt to see a cabin that you grew up in with nasty flood water 4-5 feet high. But in retrospect, compared to everything else that happened that week, that was pretty insignificant.
