I just saw the end of 12 years a slave again and had caught most of it yesterday. I think possibly Chiwetel Ejiofor should have gotten the Oscar. He was amazing. Aside from that and more importantly (as much as film critics poked at it as award bate) it is extremely powerful. As a white male it is something with great conviction and sadness as I am one who believes we have inherited the sins of our four fathers. I dont believe that white men/women can say that wasnt me, that was generations ago. The treatment of Native Americans is at least as terrible. I dont think any of that should really sound melodramatic. Any ways in which we, as white Americans, push the balance closer towards equal we are simply paying a debt of our history. It is not yet paid.
