Our series of Los Angeles Film Festival LA Muse previews continues! Todays film: Holbrook/Twain: An American Odyssey Hal Holbrooks Mark Twain is an icon of American theater. Since first walking on stage in 1954, Holbrook has performed his one-man show Mark Twain Tonight! for millions on and off Broadway, in all fifty states, in twenty countries, before five U.S. presidents and behind the Iron Curtain. Countless actors and Twain scholars have been influenced by Holbrooks work and his Tony and Emmy Award-winning masterpiece. In this starkly shot documentary, director Scott Teems takes the audience backstage as Holbrook transforms into Twain. Teems candid interviews with Holbrook illuminate the actors gifts, but frankly confront the shortcomings of the man. Additional interviews with Sean Penn, Cherry Jones, Martin Sheen, Emile Hirsch and others give the audience a behind-the-scenes look at this remarkable odyssey.
