I just saw this now! Its from a candidate running for office, and it references my letters to my local Rep. And Rep. Rosemary Browns callous failure to respond to them, as well as the focus of my argument for not passing this legislation. Ill be thinking about Rep. Browns anti-conservation attack on our clean streams when I enter the voting booth next month! She cosponsored HB1565 and voted to degrade the riparian buffer zone protections to our drinking water provided by current regs. The 189th deserves better, Ms. Brown! Heres the text of Liz Forrests letter: To all those care about the water your drink, fish in and walk beside in Monroe and Pike Counties: Tonight, the PA Senate voted to pass the controversial stream buffer bill. Tomorrow, Mario Scavello and Rosemary Brown will be voting on the amendments, and if it passes as expected will likely be signed into law by Governor Corbett. For all of you who have worked to preserve our watersheds, the original vote on HB 1565 by every single one of Monroe and Pikes state representatives was a disgrace. Our original press release is below, and most of you have also read the Pocono Records editorials over the last two weeks as well. Although our original information was that the bill would be blocked in the PA Senate, it was not. Majority Commissioners in both Counties have praised the vote and will be urging the House on to passage of the Senate amendments, which would then most certainly be signed by the governor. Please call Reps. Brown, Scavello, Peifer and Carroll tomorrow. It wont do any good, but at least it will have been something and your voice will have been heard. Constituent Will Daskals impassioned letter is posted on the Brodhead Chapter webpage of Trout Unlimited. It gives the argument far better than I could. Sadly, he notes that Rosemary Brown has never responded to a single letter. Please share this email with as many of our colleagues as possible. brodheadstu.org/ Regardless of your party affiliation, if you live in the 189th District, I am asking for your vote on November 4. The attack on our streams and waterways has to stop. Regards, Liz LizForrest Liz Forrest Opposes Removal of Key Pollution Protections September 23, 2014 Removal of Pollution Protections Liz Forrest, Democratic Candidate for the 189th legislative district which includes part of Monroe and Pike Counties, Tuesday joined environmental groups denouncing the PA House vote to send HB 1565, a bill that removes key pollution protections for statewide waterways, to the PA Senate. In particular, she took issue with the vote of her opponent, State Representative Rosemary Brown, for what she believes is a personal conflict of interest. (To read more, go to milfordnow/liz-forrest-opposes-removalkey-pollution-protections/) This is what the Pocono Record said in a brief clip this morning: THUMBS DOWN to state Rep. Rosemary Brown, R-189; state Rep. Mario Scavello, R-176; state Rep. Mike Peifer, R-139; and state Rep. Mike Carroll, D-118, for favoring developers over the public. All four of Monroe Countys state representatives voted to pass H.B. 1556, which will make it harder for environmental officials to protect clean streams from the runoff and pollution from development. The bill would allow developers to cut down trees along streams and rivers, when scientific studies show that forested buffers reduce pollution, curb flooding and protect fish and other aquatic life. The Senate should oppose this bill.
