I just sent a letter to the CEO of BT Dear Gavin, Hello, Dom Joly here… I have been a customer for a while- getting by with BT infinity and download speeds of around 0.29 Imagine my excitement when super fast internet was coming to my Cotswold village? I spoke to a very nice lady, somewhere in England who sold me the whole package. All was well. Then came the router which I was told would be installed by an engineer and could I stay in all morning one Saturday? This I did. Nobody showed. I rang up to find that there was no record of an engineer coming. In fact, I was now told that I didn’t need to be in the house when “fast” broadband was switched on. Then, 2 days later, I got an email saying that my service had started- I was all ready for “fast” broadband with speeds up to 40 promised. You won’ t be surprised to know that my new speeds are actually SLOWER than before- an average of 0.21 download. I tried to speak to the nice, helpful lady who sold me the package- she was not available. When you complain you get to do this to uber-polite but unbelievably useless people in a call centre in India. I travelled to North Korea three years ago- I had faster internet there…. It’ll make a good column in the Indy on Sunday this week, if I can manage to email it in that is… Dom Joly
