I just shared this message with our twelve year old son, Jerry - TopicsExpress

I just shared this message with our twelve year old son, Jerry Johnson. Jerry is currently passionate about becoming the best basketball player that he can become. Sports and hobbies can be such great opportunities to teach and learn so many different life lessons. We all have different goals, passions and dreams. Since I feel that much of my to Jerry is applicable for all of us in life, I thought Id share… JJ, Anytime we choose to do something on a massive scale or different, you are subject to ridicule from others. It is different to not give up on your own personal dreams. Many give up on themselves. Many will let others steal away their dreams and never even notice that their dream stealer never even offered a replacement path to success. Most people will always choose the path of least resistance. The easy path is rarely gratifying. We have to work hard and pay the price so-to-speak. Small dreams have little or no magic. Choose big dreams and discipline. Its worth it! Create the life of your dreams and go get it! Let the haters hate! For whatever reason, t makes them feel good if it prevents you from your dreams. I am not sure why this is but it is a reality. Dont let them! Listen to those who tell you that you CAN. Listen to those who motivate, believe in and inspire you. Listen to those who stretch you to become more. To those who are where you aspire to go in life. Those who nudge you out of your personal comfort zone. This is where success lives. On the flip-side, believe in others. Be the friend/mentor to those who come into your life that have big dreams. Be the one who shows belief and confidence to them. Be the one who tells them that they CAN do it. Help pick them up if they are down and help them accomplish. If you help others to become better and have success, you will be rewarded with self gratification and growth. Inspire others with who you become. Inspire others by following your heart and pursuing your dreams. Be a long-dreamer! With this will come incredible discipline. Discipline to stay-the-course and have focus. To not ever be de-railed by a jealous person or a small dreamer. Discipline is doing what you know that you should do over and over, even when you dont want to. Study the stories of the great. Seek out, enjoy and study Michael Jordans story. Or Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and many more. You will see many similarities and will hear of their struggles and how they overcame them on their path to greatness. Success leaves clues. The success principles and philosophies will apply to every walk of life. Your victories and accomplishments will be commensurate or equal to the struggles and disciplines you choose along the way. Small struggle, small reward. Big struggle…BIG victory. With this comes the promise of one of the greatest rewards in life…you become a better person. Somebody who can impact so many lives with your story. The reward of becoming who you know that you have inside of you. Who I believe that God put you here to become. We are all capable of greatness my son. I believe that you are here to inspire and to change the world. I believe in you. We all believe in you more than we could ever express. I am so thankful for you. So proud of who you are. So proud and blessed to have you in our lives. You make me better. You stretch me to be better and I am so appreciative and thankful for that. Love you buddy, Dad
