I just spent six hours at the Pekit Hashuma (Income Tax office). - TopicsExpress

I just spent six hours at the Pekit Hashuma (Income Tax office). All I need is a letter to my former employer stating what tax to withhold. They almost sent me away. I had to beg them to see me, since my teudat zehut says Jerusalem, and I am about to move to Beit Shemesh. So they didnt want to help me in Netanya, where I actually live. (Is this what Soviet bureaucracy was like?) Then I was informed that the government will retain tax at 34% on payouts from my benefits funds from the past 7 years of work. I pointed out that the payout will be in 2015, and that the first year I earned less, so the bracket should be lower. She said no, since you were laid off in December of 2015, the tax bracket is according only to 2015. Then I found and spoke with a manager. He said tax can be assessed according to 2014 or for 2015 or for 2015 & 2016.... However, they cannot assess for 2015 until after January 21, since their computers are busy from January 1st through 21. Apparently, if I take the payout without correcting the withholding at the end of January, they will consider the payout to be in 2014, and will not return the illegally withheld tax! May the nanny State go jump in a lake, where they belong! I dont want the help nor the harm! Just please give me the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (to work/earn without interference). Amen.
