I just spent the last 3 1/2 days on the kobuk river with 6 wonderful students and mr.woodruff. We worked alongside state wildlife workers who have been collaring caribou for years. My eyes were opened to their work and concern for the caribou. I came home thankful for the opportunity experienced. Thought deeply of the many many people who have gone to onion portage yearly to harvest caribou to survive. And the thought of having caribou in unk before and no longer is disturbing. I pray that the caribou numbers rise again someday and my children and their children are able to see and survive on caribou as we have. On the way home, during flight I was able to see herds traveling south and my heart became happy. A true lifetime experience I will never forget. May we once again walk the paths of the caribou in our beautiful country.
