I just spent two minutes searching for farming malpractice in Australia to determine for myself, rather than appeasing hearsay, whether Australia really has better standards of animal care in farming than third-world countries. In that two minutes I managed to find not one but a massive list of animal farms exhibiting cruelty from somewhat expected levels, to something far more extreme than I considered possible in Australia, and Im sure a lot of you, would have also thought possible, or perhaps denied the possibility there of. Peoples rebuttal to claiming animal farming is wrong, saying, well it doesnt happen here really aggravates me, and tells me little more than youre an ignorant Australian isolationist who really doesnt care what happens, so long as its not in your neighbourhood, and coming from some people I consider intelligent, its a pretty disappointing, lowbrow argument. Thus this link takes you to a source which might help you think twice about consuming meat, and to consider whether eating an animal really is a personal choice, or whether an animals life or opinion is significant enough to make your choice anything but personal. You can read it for yourself, but Ive got to point out the owner of Wallys Piggery in NSW, did not sterilise any of his utensils for use on each animal, did not own or use a bolt-gun or electrocution muffs to kill his pigs, but used a sledge hammer to crush their skulls, and allowed feral cats to sleep with the piglets, while other piglets were left on the ground so long they had begun to decompose. Not only that, but the place was taken to court only to have charges dropped due to unlawfully obtained evidence. Cruelty to animals is only the first reason to stop eating meat, I urge you to research the impacts and consider your actions and choices not only in this matter, but in all aspects of life with deliberation, caution, and sound education. Please take an interest in our world and what is happening in it, and at least attempt to express compassion and maybe even morality. aussiepigs/piggeries/wally aussiepigs/
