I just think its funny two weeks ago John Kerry was saying climate change was the biggest enemy in the world, and what happened? He forgot about hurricane Vlad. Saying to a tyrant that youre on the wrong side of history means nothing. Thats like telling a bank robber he doesnt have an account at the bank. They know. I have a weird prediction, and I dont know if its good or if its bad, but I think that theres going to be an emergence of a modern American nationalism out of necessity. In 1979, what we saw was the emergence of a new leader, a strong leader, a pro-American leader in Ronald Reagan because you sensed the country needed it. Theres nowhere else to go for America. You cant get any less ambivalent than we are right now about the world. Its a combination of isolationism on the left and right. That we decided that we want to turn out the lights and pretend were not home. And I think right now, were in a state where we actually might have to see a resurgence of a very nationalistic leader out of necessity because no one seems to listen to us. And I dont know if thats good or bad. I think it might be good.
