I just want to say that the lack of voter authentification that goes on in Australian voting is laughable. You just turn up without any sort of identification whatsoever, Have you already voted today? No Ok, here you go, vote. If I wanted to, (not that I personally would ever do this, but its so easy for someone to do), I could just go to voting booths multiple times on election day, each time saying that Im someone who I know is going to vote a party I dislike (e.g. a friend of mine who supports Liberal), and vote the party I want instead. They cant track me at all, neither the people in charge of the voting nor the people whose identities Im stealing have any way to find out who I am. Unless I am unlucky to turn up like at the same time as the person Im impersonating at the same polling station, or I come in too frequently at the same station and the people working there recognise my face. But lets say I say Im some random person I know, and they tick the name off and let me vote, either the fact that one person is listed as voting twice wont be detected, and Ill have snuck in a few extra votes for the party I want in, or the fact that one person is listed as voting twice *will* be detected, in which case all of the votes listed with their name will be considered invalid, and Ive effectively stopped them being able to vote for the part I dont want in. Source: My mum worked for the electoral thing these elections with helping them with the voting booths and stuff, and she confirmed that the system is this stupid and that somebody could seriously do this and there would be no way to stop them or find out who it was. Im just surprised nobody has done it already.
