I just wanted to share my experience here and get some thoughts on this issue: I have been running a car magazine called Fast Lane for the past one year, it is the only car magazine of Bangladesh. It might not be the best but it is the only one and is certainly a first step towards something greater. When i started this magazine i was hoping to contribute to the automobile scenario of Bangladesh and to be honest it was not about making money. I have a few other business from where i get good cashflow but this idea came more from passion and hobby. Over time i have came to realize that majority of the people in Bangladesh are jelous and cannot stand to see other people succeed; now ofcourse i am not saying that everyone is like that but most of the people are from what i have seen from my experience. People are constantly putting in enormous amount of effort to put you down rather than try to help you! There are a number of great car magazines in our neigbouring countries like India, thailand, malaysia to name a few and i was hoping we could do the same for Bangladesh but with such a mentality and attitude of majority it would be hard to do so. What i dont understand is that it is not a competition, you and I can both succeed at the same time but that doesnt seem to register in the head of a lot of people. Another thing i noticed is that people here are not very welcoming to changes; they see the product and appreciate it so much but when it comes to lend a helping hand most of them dont even bother because it is not a very conventional product. I know this post sounds like a random rant but i just wanted to get the word out that it is very hard to succeed and stay motivated in a place where people are jealous, close minded and constantly trying to put you down. With such a mindset amongst most people it is very hard to promote something creative in this economy, i hope the people of Bangladesh realize that and understand the fact that if someone is doing well doesnt mean that you cant either. At the same time i hope they are more open minded and welcoming to new and creative things and try and help the start-ups - you never know, one day they might just be the next big thing! I hope this post brings out a more positive attitude in people so that they learn to appreciate and help other entrepreneurs and at the same time lend a helping hand so that they can think out of the box and do something creative rather than following the conventional norms which we confine ourselves to.
