I just wanted to share these two photos from a trip to the zoo on Saturday. The first photo is the original. Having your subject behind a glass is not optimal for getting the best photos, especially for a novice like myself. I really bonded with this gorilla. He sauntered over to the window and sat down right in front of me, so I squatted down and started to talk to him while I was snapping photos. He looked at me with such sadness in his eyes that it almost broke my heart, and then he just lifted his head towards the sky. When I got home and downloaded my pictures, I was so upset to find that there were reflections in the glass that separated me from this gorilla, as well as smudges on the glass, things that I didnt see behind the lens. I knew in my heart that I had captured something special in this gorilla, and asked for help in editing it and cleaning it up. A friend worked on it with Photoshop, and the second picture is the result of her efforts. I was so happy to have captured that moment, and thrilled that she was able to make it print-worthy for me. Some moments only come along once in a lifetime, and for me, this was one of them. :)
