I just watched state Rep. Auments interview with state Ed. Sec. Dumaresq on CC: https://youtube/watch?v=xn9sq9zCOeQ&list=UU-MKubESlFI8QMpD0JG6ivA This interview was referenced in the recent article in the Tyrone Daily Herald. The interview,as expected,is filled with misinformation. One of the CC buzzwords is rigorous. You will hear this word repeated again and again by CC defenders. The term rigorous does NOT mean hard or difficult, as in Calculus is hard. You will notice CC defenders never define what they mean by rigorous. Pa Core are not state-designed, with the exception of state history and civics. They are the same as the national CC. When you bring up the subject of data collection, they will throw you off guard by saying that CC did not add any new data collection. That is true. The data collection was set up a year or 2 before CC. CC will allow them to collect the data through all the constant assessments. They will still be collecting data on your child and your family, and they can share it with other governmental and non-governmental entities. Another statement often made is that school districts have the right to add to the CC standards. This is true, but it wont happen. The reason is easy to understand. All school districts are under financial duress. IF you are under pressure for all your students to score proficient on the Keystones, that is where you are going to put every last dollar to do. Why? Because that is how you get funding. You wont get funding for having kids take Calculus or Trigonometry, because that is not tied to the standards. Make sense? Watch the video for yourself and if you have any questions let me know.
