I just wrote a stream of consciousness piece regarding todays Eagles game. It is 1 part journal entry, one part request. It is a request to all you who #bleedgreen to listen carefully. Be willing to get inspired. If your heart starts racing, good. Dont kill off the possibility before you get to the end. This is about us building a Dynasty. Not just a winning team. Something legendary that will be remembered through the #NFL for generations. And YOU will have been here for it. AND you will have been an integral part of it. So I give you, Mystic Sports Fan Spell Cast 1 As a sports fan, how do we affect a game? At the stadium we scream and yell and try to get in the opponents head. This way we can upset the timing of their offense. Make them actually fear for their life in some primal way. We can disrupt the confidence of even the most established and accredited quarterback. ANY athlete on some human level is susceptible to the jeers and sheer noise volume a home crowd can make. Other athletes, however, similar to people in other competitive fields...they actually THRIVE on being the underdog. They LIKE being hated on. They enjoy being doubted. These kinds of athletes can often be more impressive because of what they appear to overcome to achieve what others seem to do effortlessly. When it comes to an away game, how could we possibly have any affect on the outcome of something that is happening so far away? Am I to believe that my yelling at the TV is actually going to impact whats happening in Green Bay today? But if ALL OF US in #EaglesNation are watching...if were alll intending on the SAME outcomes at the same time. Maybe. Just maybe THEN we can do something. So Tweet when you want to see that Pick 6. Because trust me. There will be 1. Aaron Rodgers is gonna throw his helmet in the 3rd Quarter. (Wouldnt it be amazing if he did) Maybe there is a collective consciousness powerful enough to bring about an actual #FORCETOBERECKONEDWITH that is more powerful than Home Field Advantage. More powerful than the brilliance of a head coach. Something so powerful that even the players on the field become just pieces in a game played between cities. Last week on Monday Night my Dad and I were having a conversation at the game, much like we always have. Pick 6, right here. ...Fletcher. Then BOOM! It happens. These kids in front of us turn around in unison like a scene from Saved by the Bell or something. One of them is like, ...did one of you just call that? And were like, Yeah. And they looked both horrified, excited, and shocked all at the same time. In the Eagles/Giants game the guy sitting next to me was Victor Cruzs barber. He talked some smack about how Cruz was going to leap up and catch a TD on us. I told him, Sorry bro. But your boys gonna get laid out. I hope hes okay and all, but its gonna be bad. I kid you not. So, how does a fan affect the game when the team plays away? Who the hell knows. Maybe its all mumbo jumbo. Maybe we cant affect anything and were just sitting at home with an invisible hope. A prayer. Snake oil. Lucky charms. Lucky shirts. Rituals. Traditional food prepared in the same way by the same person in the same spot but not TOO early and not TOO late. Or the team you watch the game with. The same. Or not. Maybe the way we win is we stay expressing that love, that pride, that passion, and joy we have by watching our Eagles go out there and innovate the game. Reign pain on our enemies and rock the Special Teams world when nobody was watching. They were ENAMORED with Chip, but WE believe. There were Foles haters and supporters alike. Now we gotta roll with the #Sanchize. Not because hes great. Not because hes not. But because hes OUR GUY now. What more do you need? You know what the difference at the Linc is now? Besides the #FengShui miracle my father performed in the SouthWest corner? Theres no more hate. We dont boo at the first dropped pass. We dont call for the coachs job when he does something boneheaded. We dont walk out because theyre down. We stay in the Snow Bowl till its over. We rock out with the speakers bumping loud in our face. YOU start an EAGLES cheer in the stands and get hundreds of people to chant for the first time and you feel like your hearts going to explode. This is more than football. This is a chance to expand brotherhood and sisterhood. Open your heart up to new people. Learn about systems and plays and use it in your job. Transform your community with the joy of celebratory victory. You ever seen a Championship Parade? I chipped my tooth at one and didnt even care. So today. Do whatever you think you can do to get the Birds a victory. If you think its stupid, but it might work, DO IT. If you wore that shirt during the NFC Championship game against the Falcons in 04, BRING THAT. If you remember beating Aaron Rodgers once before. Remember that again. The point is, there HAS to be a way we can affect the outcome of this game today. Isnt that part of the MAGIC of sports? That even though everything can be broken down statistically and according to odds, and there are mechanics and its very methodical. Even though its very logical. There is a part of it you cant explain. What the hell would have ordinarily mellow people completely bug out at grown men throwing and catching a ball around on the field? Its because they ARE us. We live not only vicariously through them. They are paid to represent US. THATS why we go. And THATS why we can make a difference when they step out on the field. If thats too woowoo for you, then you probably need to check yourself because when you were 7 you certainly werent that cynical. But whatever, do what you want, because come tonight when we beat these Packers 31-20 or something like that and everybody is talking about how it happened, my Dad and I will be laughing about all the calls WE made, all the points WE scored, and hope that everybody else in #PEACEadelphia is enjoying the W.
