I keep being told that carbs are evil and carbs are out, but, luckily, the pasta sorcerers in NYC and elsewhere arent listening. Last night finally made it to Michael Whites Osteria Morini on the Upper East Side; its pasta dishes --- especially the paccheri and the garganelli -- are the very summit of the craft. Quite pricey, but undeniably fantastic. And in Philly recent, was hugely impressed by the pasta dishes that Marc Vetri is doing at Amis, especially the amatriciana. And then theres Andrew Carmellinis Bar Primi in downtown Manhattan, a restaurant thats devoted almost utterly to pasta but finds space on the menu for some of the best meatballs Ive had. If youre a meatball lover, a meatball cognoscenti, a meatball maven, you owe yourself a visit.
