I knew Jimmie Hoffa personally. THE STORY. I worked as a waiter at the Concord Hotel in the Catskill Mountains of NY. It was a hangout for the "Wise Guys" because the owner of the Hotel was a bootlegger like Kennedy during prohibition. I was in Dining Room of Hotel and I saw Jimmie sitting at a table with 4 other guys. I thought to myself "These wise guys are good tippers" At 18 I made my move. I welcomed Mr Hoffa and asked him whether he and his guests would like something to drink. Jimmie said yeah and pointed to another guy sitting at a close by table and told me that Mr Hoffa would like a bottle of 20 year old Chivas for his table. I knew it was a "shakedown" and I was the intermediary. OK with me. I needed the money to go to college and I saw money in them thar hills. I walked over to the other guy and stated to him that Mr Hoffa would like you to buy him a bottle of 20 year old Chivas. He responded by telling me that "you do anything that Mr Hoffa wishes. See, I knew the guy getting the squeeze as owning the largest trucking company in NYC and he did not want a wlld cat strike the next day that would cost him thousands. This was only a 40 buck hit. I then brought the Scotch and setups and walked over to the Trucker and presented him with the 40 buck bill to pay. I ADDED THE FOLLOWING WORDS WHEN I PRESENTED THAT BILL. MR HOFFA TOLD ME TO TELL YOU TO TAKE CARE OF THE KID, ME. He took out a 10 dollar bill and gave it to me with the 40. I am no schmuck. He was a mark for Hoffa and a mark for me. Only birds sing for free. I sung for 10 bucks that evening. This was 1955 and 10 bucks was like 100 bucks today. Minimum wage was 75 cents an hour. MORAL OF STORY. WISE UP KID AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AN OPPORTUNITY THAT PRESENTS ITSELF ON A SILVER PLATTER. HOFFA NEVER TOLD ME TO TAKE CARE OF THE KID. THAT WAS ME WITH MY SHAKEDOWN. I WAS NOT STUPID TO ASK HOFFA FOR A TIP. SO I SHIFTED THE BURDEN ON THE SHAKEE.
