I knew how to ride a bicycle since I was a kid. My Mom bought me - TopicsExpress

I knew how to ride a bicycle since I was a kid. My Mom bought me one and my late Uncle Delfin was the one who taught me how to ride it without training wheels. Since then, I grew up with a bicycle as a means of transportation whenever Ill be asked to ran errands for my Grandma and my parents. With my fathers all steel road bike at hand, with all the gears on it but doesnt shift for unknown reason (maybe my father didnt bother to fix it, anyways it was rolling in 1 piece), I ride on it whenever I need to buy some stuff at National Bookstore in Tropical which was approximately 3-5kms away from home. Last year, April 2013, I decided to buy my first Mountain Bike. At first, it was all just for fad, to feel that Im in, and never thought of using it as frequently as Im using it now. Then one day, a friend of mine asked me to join their group as they pedal their way the petrol station just at the beginning of Al Khor road going to Lusail Racing Circuit and back. I know that I can do it but when we were at the middle of the road, I felt exhausted, tired, and I was breathing like an Asthmatic patient. I was pedaling but it was as if I am not moving. And I started to feel pain and numbness at the inner part of my thighs. Still trying to pedal ay my own pace but little did I know that I was already left behind. My co-riders were a kilometer away from me. This made me decide to make myself physically fit. And first thing to change was to QUIT SMOKING! They always say that you need a strong will power in order for you to quit smoking. Bearing this saying always in my mind, I decided to end my 22 years of smoking. But pure will power didnt work on me. At first, it was not easy. I was like a psychotic patient, paranoid schizophrenia should I say as I kept on making myself busy just to keep the thought of smoking away from my mind. At times I was also like a bipolar mania coz I want to keep on talking and chat with friends and colleagues. And at night, just before I go to sleep, I pamper myself with just 1 stick of cigarette just to doze off and welcome the next morning for another day of challenging myself not to grab a single stick in a day. These has been my routine for 2 months. Then one night, because of a busy and toxic shift at the ED, I was able to doze off immediately when I reached and lay my back against my bed. And the following morning when I woke up, that made me decide and count the days that I didnt smoke. A day have passed, then 2, then 3, then a week, then months. And yesterday, 22nd of July 2014, marks the 1st year that Im smoke free. Yes, you really need a strong will power to overcome smoking but for me, you need a very strong reason in order to boost that will power and cycling was there for me. Thank you Lord God, for helping me quit smoking. And Im looking forward for more years of smoke free and healthy lifestyle. More cycling too...hahaha :D #lifestylemodification #successfulsmokingquitter #loveforfamily
