I know I am old. The beautiful New Years ball fell, and my seven - TopicsExpress

I know I am old. The beautiful New Years ball fell, and my seven year old granddaughter and I managed to keep half an eye open on the sofa to see it all happen. All I could think about was, who has to clean up all that confetti? And, how much would you have to pay me to stand with a million kids for hours and hours in the cold. And what do you do when you have to go to the bathroom? I assume wearing Depends becomes more than just a joke. These are the things old people think about. The next day we attended the 80th birthday of a dear friend. We took the train to NY, and then hopped the subway to the upper West side. The trains were packed, and someone offered me a seat. Not only do I know I am old,... everyone else knows it! A seat on the subway is only permitted if youre nine months pregnant or older than dirt. I didnt know if I should thank the guy or smack him. But I did take the seat; my bunions hurt. The party was wonderful. My friend knows so many bright interesting people; theater critics, opera divas, photographers, documentary makers. I enjoyed learning about their lives and their jobs but I was so tired from thinking so much. When we get together with our own friends, we chat about diets, whats on sale at Costco, and which recipe yields the best meatballs. This party had me on my intellectual tiptoes, and I fell asleep on the train, and immediately upon arriving back home. I am quite a ball of fire. Like the New Years ball, I drop at midnight if not sooner. Hail Granny. Have a great week.
