I know I dont often post things that are good if you will. I know I dont always give the thanks where they are so greatly deserved. But please, dont take offense to any of this. You see, those of us that are involved in the Marion County Humane Society are normally caring for dogs/cats, we are making phone calls, we are checking on bad situations, we are doing home visits, and we are completely covered up. Now, if you leave a message on our voicemail and it is something that we cannot or do not handle, then, yes, it may take a few days for us to get back with you. If you report an abuse, we do our best to get the information needed and we try our best to get to the bottom of the problem. If you are trying to surrender a dog/cat and we have no room, we are NOT forgetting that you called, we just simply dont have room for any right at that time but we will work diligently to help you find a home for the animals that you are trying to rehome. We do spay and neuter runs at least twice a month which takes ALL day and we are often gone for up to 12 hours on those days. During that time, we still have dog/puppies and cats/kittens that need to be taken care of so it is often two trips to the vets office and back again. We do this as a courtesy to the citizens of this county and will continue to do so until we at least make a dent in the over population here. I know many of you wonder and have asked, why do we send all of our dogs to rescues out of state? Well, let me give you a perfect example. Over the last 3 weeks, we have had 3 of the dogs that we have adopted out locally returned to us. What this does is this: #1 it is a LOT of paperwork on our end to complete and #2 it takes up space where we have no fosters available. So, yes, we DO send most of our dogs and puppies out of state and to our loyal rescues such as Sweet Paws Rescue and Pawfect Life Rescue. We have had FANTASTIC outcomes with these rescues and we are proud to say that there have been ZERO euthanasias on their end when it comes to the dogs that we have sent! That says a LOT for these two rescues and we are PROUD to be affiliated with both of them. So, with all of that being said, we simply ask that if you do NOT receive a call back from us in a few days of you trying to contact us, PLEASE give us the opportunity to be human and call us back. We are a small (very small) group of individuals doing everything we can to make a difference and we are ALL volunteers. We do NOT get paid for this and it is NOT about us! It is about the dogs/puppies and cats/kittens that we can help! If you are wanting to know what you can do to help, we are in CONSTANT need of bleach, laundry detergent, dawn dish soap, K9 Advantix II flea and tick medicine, treats for our intakes, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies, office supplies such as copy paper, ink for our printers, manilla envelopes, and the list could go on and on. But, you get the hint. We are also in constant need of monetary donations due to the fact that we eat a lot of the costs of travel and maintenance on the transport van but do so willingly to try to make a difference. This is a never ending saga when it comes to these animals and we will not give up hope that some day, we can and WILL make a difference. We do want to thank our faithful contributors for their constant support such as Tractor Supply, Hamilton, Spann Hardware, Winfield, and Wal-Mart, Hamilton for their contributions and efforts to make our endeavors a little easier. Thanks everyone for your patience, your understanding and your continued support! We couldnt do it without you.
