I know I have been quiet this week but its been a rough one to say - TopicsExpress

I know I have been quiet this week but its been a rough one to say the least with lost going on - so much so that I woke up yesterday morning adamant that it was Wednesday - I refused to believe that it was Thursday and checked 3 different calendars to make sure. That may be because I slept in a stable at least one night this week. YES, I slept in the stable... on a bed made out of bales and NO it was not comfortable but our vet found it very amusing.... On Tuesday afternoon, the grooms informed me that one of the young Friesian mares wasnt eating her food; she was rolling around and her stomach was swollen and hard. My first thought; colic! We brought her in, walked her a little and out came the meds in accordance with the vets specifications but I absolutely HATE doing IV injections and so I was trying to get someone to come and do it for me but to no avail. As I sat down to take courage, a swollen udder caught my eye and my jaw dropped to the floor! COULT IT BE? Could this 3 year old scrawny looking mare actually be in foal? Long story short, I spent the evening in a stable monitoring her every move and making sure she does not cast herself as she continued to roll and kick at her swollen belly. By the following morning, her belly had changed shape again and returned to normal but she remained restless and continued to paw at the ground. After a thorough examination by Dr. Boshof, we were relieved to learn that she was fine, the foal was alive and well positioned for birth which is expected to take place within a few days... we continue to monitor her and will keep you posted. Little Jack has also finally has his big op... he is now a gelding, though it seems he is unaware of the fact. We have received a report of horses and dogs walking on what looks to be a rubbish dump. They are said to be in a terrible condition and possibly injured. I will personally go out to see what the situation is and whether we are able to help. There will be a follow up post. In the back ground, we continue to deal with all the every day trials and tribulations. Every day holds a challenge and at times it seems to much to bare but thanks to those who believe in what we do and who recognise the burdens we bare, we continue on our path. I know there are people praying for Happy Hooves... thank you for that! Funding is and remains by far our biggest problem... we want to remind you that donations to an NPO such as Happy Hooves is tax deductible and we are quite happy for anyone to make payments directly to service suppliers if that gives you peace of mind that the money donated goes where it should. If you are willing and able to help, please let us know. I will gladly send whatever documents are required. Thank you everyone for your support! Annerie Managing Member
