I know I may have posted these pictures before but the Miss Rita - TopicsExpress

I know I may have posted these pictures before but the Miss Rita story (and thanks for all your comments) brought to mind the day our new RCA color studio cameras were delivered to WOKR , without the camera bases. It was especially an exciting time for me as Art Director because everything that appeared on camera had to be converted to color. All the sets, studio lightning , on air graphics, even the make-up the talent put on their faces had to be changed for color broadcast. These new state of the art color camera heads were very heavy...almost 400lbs. and without the hydraulic camera base almost impossible to move. The station had committed to going on the air in-color on a particular date so we had no choice but to place the cameras on tables and do the first news show in full color. We didnt receive the bases for the cameras for several days later which meant the cameras couldnt be moved during the broadcast. Thats Dick Burt at the news desk...he did the early broadcast and Don Alhart did the late nite show. The Weather Outside with Jerry Carr and his first color broadcast. The white carpet hes standing on covered a platform that made him look a little taller on air. How many of you made the trip downtown to the Manger Hotel marque on Clinton Av. just to see Jerry and appear on the Weather Outside. Those were days when making a trip downtown was a treat. After being away since 67, although I come home every Thanksgiving, I understand thats not such a treat any more. Too bad for the city and the people that have always been so proud to be from Rochester.
