I know Ive posted this before, but its just too much. I showed this to my students today. Its this acid-hippie interpretive dance showing protein synthesis from 1971 at Berkeley. Introduction by Nobel Prize winner Robert Weiss. Hippie- Living Theater-types form a polymorphous ribosome while cofactors and initializing enzymes dance around the tRNA anticodons bringing the amino acid sacrifice for holy polymerization. I was really grooving to the 30s ribosome and the ballerina blowing smoke to represent GTP use. Some lunatic screams tRNA ecstatically over and over to some drum circle beats. The cult-leader voice narration is a nice touch. It would have been cool to show the new protein getting packaged into its tertiary structure like confetti by the Golgi apparatus, but Im not sure if scientists had gotten that part of the theory worked out in 1971. https://youtube/watch?v=u9dhO0iCLww
