I know a young lady in Maddock, North Dakota, who likes to eat healthy, avoiding that soda. She’s a teacher and mother and grandma, too; And blessed with animals, she’s had a few. She’s an angel on earth; many spirits she’s lifted; Ask about her students, she’ll tell you they’re gifted. And no one would argue, for she sees all their worth And she shows each one of them why they were put on this earth. My sister Melissa has so very many gifts of her own And in her small town there’s no doubt she’s well known. She’s loving and giving and doesn’t slow down, Teaching reading and writing and modifying a noun. I’ve known her since birth, and I’ve been here much longer, And because of her goodness she makes me much stronger. Today is the day that marks the day she was born, And if I were closer I’d honk my car horn Telling all who will listen about this beautiful female Who receives birthday greetings now in the form of email. I loved her sweet nature since she was a child, And just the thought of her has always made me smile. I’m proud of this woman, my oldest sister so great, Who today has turned a quite young forty-eight. As the years go on by we’ll add memories galore. I excitedly wait to see what our lives have in store. Happy birthday, Melissa, hope this day’s better than you thought; I know you know I not only love you, I love you A LOT!
