PDF Print E-mail En español a continuación The School of the Americas Watch is hiring a Field Organizer to be based in Washington, DC for a minimum 2-year commitment, to start as soon as possible. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) with health benefits, paid vacation and holiday time. Salary $35,000/year. There are also opportunities for skills development. Mission Statement School of the Americas Watch is a nonviolent grassroots movement that works to stand in solidarity with the people of Latin America, to close the SOA/WHINSEC and to change oppressive U.S. foreign policy that the SOA represents. SOA Watch Field Organizer SOA Watch Field Organizer to work in collaboration with the grass roots movement and other staff to engage in field organizing, and campaign and event coordination. Field Organizing – 50% The National Field Organizer would be responsible for engaging the grass roots movement across the United States by coordinating with local partners, members of the SOA Watch Council, and grass roots members to host events, strategy meetings, and other projects that will serve to strengthen and broaden the SOA Watch movement. These include the November Vigil at Fort Benning and the Spring Days in Washington, DC. Responsibilities will also include mentoring local leadership, promotion of SOA Watch campaigns/events, speaking tours, and coordination of events in partnership with local groups to build awareness of the School and the movement to close it. Campaign and Event Coordination – 25% The Field Organizer is responsible for coordinating events for the organization including the annual Vigil in Columbus GA, federal trial events, and annual lobby days. The Field organizer is responsible for helping to create and implement new campaigns for the organization that assist in fulfilling its stated mission. The coordination of events and campaigns is shared in partnership with the National Organizer, other staff, different committees of the organization, the SOA Watch Council, partner organizations, and members of the movement. Communications work – 10% The Field Organizer works in coordination with the North and South staff of SOA Watch to conduct media work around events, speaking with the media, organizing mass emails to the movement and helping in part to maintain the SOA Watch website. Office Coordination – 10% The Field Organizer will work with fellow staff and with the different volunteers and interns who come to the organization, to help ensure that the organization’s work flows smoothly. With office staff, as well as event coordination, SOA Watch works from a consensus model that does not engage a hierarchical model of relationships or organization. Fiscal Development and Coordination – 5% The Field Organizer and other staff need to be familiar with the fiduciary responsibilities of a non-profit, and provide support to and coordination with the Development Coordinator and Development Working Group as needed. Qualifications: - Excellent written and speaking skills - Fluency in Spanish and English - Knowledge of history of US-Latin America/Caribbean relations; familiarity with the SOA/WHINSEC and work of SOA Watch - Ability to engage with a variety of audiences - Ability to travel across the country - Experience in event planning - Basic computer skills; familiarity with HTML, webpages and social media Women, people of color and differently-abled persons are encouraged to apply.
