I know its been a constant battle for gender equality in cycling with sponsorships and prize money. Sponsorships can be argued at the individual level and is a separate conversation. My frustration is races that do not offer equal payout for men and women. This has happened multiple times during the year at races Ive been at. It is extremely frustrating to see that prize money for a 1st place man is 2 or 3 times the amount what the 1st place woman gets paid. Why is this acceptable? Women bring a lot of value to races. There are several movements to increase womens participation in the sport. If theres legitimate reason from a business perspective as to why a man should get paid more than a woman, I would like to know and perhaps offer another perspective. I have also been frustrated in general with media coverage and stage race videos focusing on the mens racing more than the womens racing. Im not saying that women should get MORE attention than men, but how about some equality?!
