I know its never fair to compare a film with the novel. But I just finished The Shining and was disappointed. It was impeccably shot and the atmosphere was spot on but I despised the way they handled Danny (especially with Tony) and the characters were flat. Jack comes across as unlikeable and unhinged from the start and Wendy is wishy washy and not the strong, caring mother from the book. Visually fantastic, meh story.
