The husband and I ate at Shells on St. Pete Beach last Friday - TopicsExpress

The husband and I ate at Shells on St. Pete Beach last Friday night. I fail to see why anybody would be excited about this place. It has all the ambiance of a college dorm cafeteria and the food was meh. We chose to eat in the bar at a tall table instead of the huge, brightly lit main dining room and the manager was doing her paperwork/schedules right next to us, didnt even think of moving or going to say, her office?! This was at 8 pm on a Friday night! Hubbie had some New England clam chowder and it was typical. Oysters on the half shell were huge but frozen in the middle which means they are shucked ahead of time and put on ice. Maybe if they have an all you can eat crab leg special, Ill try it again. We tried to persuade the manager into getting blue crabs this summer and she said they dont even do stone crab claws. So much for authentic old style Florida seafood. I think this place is like Leverocks: for the elderly, British tourists and those who cannot walk. That last one is a poke at the complimentary valet parking which actually forces you to tip somebody for getting into your vehicle and driving it 10 feet into the parking lot for you. I would give it 2 stars out of 10. Very underwhelmed.
