I know no one will care....but. I have been an engraver a long time, sold the machines, tools clamps etc etc..... did exhibitions etc. Have used manual and rotary and laser ENGRAVING machines, But when people refer to it as PRINTING!!!! I get stroppy. ITS ENGRAVING BECAUSE YOU CUT INTO SOMETHING!!!!! So the other night on today tonight they run a segment on our future 3D PRINTING machines, one for every home etc, make what you want etc...... How and why over the last centuries have people buggerised the skill, there is no course, no qualifications needed and people off handily put it as printing. GRRRR. There are cutters that have to be correct angle, depth and speeds are factors, on many other things I wont bore you with. Lets just say I had trouble with tool angles... Its is Engraving not printing and its is a skill. It started with chisel or nail type for etching, cutting. For decorative or informative. Yes It is etching, and has been branched in many forms. So apparently you will be able to ENGRAVE anything you want in the future, thanks to technology you want probably have to have much skill, But the history of this tradition started at the beginning of time, pictures, sculptures, The 10 commandments etc etc. I have always been fascinated that people put it in the background. When I look around at all the engraving I still see everyday!!, I am proud to see my own work when I was at Holmesglen. Engraving is still in high demand and always well be. Check out hand engraving sometime. But when in the future you are making what ever you desire, some one some where is proud of that long progression of communication to feeling something in your hand. ENGRAVING IS WONDERFUL. Rant over.
